Lake Rere Circuit

page 5

Here's the turnoff

Same stream,, different crossing.

We head along a narrowish farm track for a bit, and emerge above the bay. Wow.

We make our way down the hill. There has once been regular vehicle access up here, too, but not for a while. There's a fine line at times between conservation and neglect.

We ;look back down the lake towards the wharf.

Here's the path back up onto the terrace. I suspect this is not the track our American acquaintances of the day before followed, despite the DoC poles. It's much too overgrown and shows no sign of use. I imagine the tour group simply followed the private road around from the bay to where it rejoins the walking track up ahead.

Anyhow, we make it to the top and by now we're starting to dip into our water supplies. We're out in the open and it's hot.

There's some fine scenery to be had, on the other hand.

Here comes the private road up to join us.

It's cross country now. along the edge of a terrace

Thedre are several stiles to negotiate and unlike some of this design, these are all well-braced and do not wobble.

and there's the carpark across the way

Here's another swing bridge used by cattle, but much less substantial than the last. I wonder what it takes to get a beast up onto this.

Five minutes along the track, and we're back at the van.
